8:55 pm	Девушка, девушка, где я??? (c) Сегодня утром сказала про нашего transgender (MTF) patient, что она как будто вышла из фильма Альмодавара. На меня посмотрели вопросительно. Среди смотрящих были: психиатр лесбиянка; психиатр, к-й до медицинской школы сделал ABD in Spanish literature or history and speaks Spanish fluently; Jewish PhD in Clinical Psych; MSW и два art therapists. 1:18 am	JKR reading - 2nd night No, I didn't go for the 2nd night :) This is a brief version of the Leaky brief report. It sounds like the 2nd night was much more exciting in terms of intriguing and thought-provoking questions and answers. For starters, Salman Rushdie came out of hiding and risked his life for this event :) and unabashedly asked whether Dumbledore was dead and whether Snape was good or bad. JKR confirmed that Dumbledore was dead and advised the fans to move on from denial to the next stage of mourning. I can't believe there're people still insisting that D is alive or will come back to life - it's pretty clear he is "properly dead" and JKR has said it before in a very clear way. But apparently some people never stop - on the site Dumbledoreisnotdead.com people continued to insist that he is alive even after hearing what she said tonight... this reminds me of the crazy shippers who could not let go off Harry-Hermione after book 6 and signed petitions to JKR. Going back to the second and much more important part of Rushdie's question: apparently, JKR said something to the effect that his (Rushdie's) opinion was right. Absolutely need the transcript to hear what exactly he said... There was also an interesting moment when she was asked which characters she would like to take out for dinner. Reportedly, she immediately named the trio and then stumbled, stating that she knows who is dead and who is alive which makes answering this question more problematic... This whole episode immediately started the speculations that because she didn't hesitate to name the trio it might mean that they all survive... Again - I would really like to read the transcript and to see the video to judge for myself. There was also a funny comment about Hagrid: she said that if she could she would bring him to life because if she met a fundamentalist Christian who was anti-Harry Potter, it would be nice to say, "Would you like to discuss this matter with Hagrid?" 1:09 am	JKR reading for charity Отоварила свой подарочек на ДР :) Место было хорошее, JKR как живая ;) и детей противных рядом не было, тк дорогие билеты :) К тому же, 6 тысячам присутствовавших любителей чтения писателей показывали на пяти больших экранах, так что видно было хорошо. Представляла все мероприятие Whoopi Goldberg в оранжевой рубашечке. Кинга представляла Kathy Bates, к-я в Misery играла. Писателя мне дотоле неизвестного John Irving (Cedar House Rules) - какой-то тоже неизвестный мне актер, а JKR - Jon Stewart из какого-то вечернего ТВ шоу (я поскольку телевизор смотрю мало, не знаю, кто он такой, хотя лицо знакомое, а народ визжал буйно). Про каждого писателя показали коротенький фильм, а потом они читали. Кинг - рассказ про конкурс поедания пирогов, как он выразился - revenge of a fat boy, I used to be a fat boy. Это было из серии "Театр закрывается, нас всех тошнит" - в буквальном смысле... может он Хармса читал?.. ;) Вообще, он мне понравился, язвительный такой. Jоhn Irving читал из какого-то своего романа, JKR - из последней книги, главу про воспоминание Дамблдора о том, как он встретился в первый раз с Томом в сиротском приюте (кстати, ударение в Marvolo, оказывается, на втором слоге). Ну, а потом вопросы, разумеется. Вопросы могли отправить все обладатели билетов (к тому моменту, как мы купили билеты, уже было поздно), и их, разумеется, заранее отбирали - подозреваю, что по согласованию с JKR или ее представителями, потому как никаких даже поползновений спросить что-то, имеющее отношение к последней книге, не было. Т.е. в любом случае это было бы бесполезно, потому как женщина, как известно, кремень ;) Но все равно, половина ее интервью обычно состоит из "I can't possibly answer this question", а в этот раз ничего подобного не было. Краткий пересказ своими словами (в скором времени, я думаю, на fan sites будут опубликованы transcripts): What would Hermione see in the Mirror of Erised? - At this moment, she would see the trio alive and unscathed and Voldemort gone... and she would see herself intertwined with someone...ha-ha-ha (The woman is clearly obsessed with this part of the plot, later on she brought up the shipping wars and she mentions this romance in one way or another almost in every recent interview) Something about redemption for Draco - blah-blah-blah, as we saw Draco could not kill Dumbledore (she didn't say his name, just in case someone hasn't read the book yet), so it tells us about his character Cam muggles make potions if they have all ingredients and instructions? - No, they need a wand and they need magical abilities (Duh... I don't even know how people come up with these questions and most imporantly - why?!..) Something about different wandmakers and why Olivander's most powerful wands have as their cores phoenix feather, unicorn hair and something else (maybe a sneaky attempt to get some information about how the plot will be developing if there is particular significance to these core elements - Yes, there are other wandmakers besides Olivander but essentially Olivander chose these cores because JKR liked them the most (duh again... come to think of it, maybe it's the typical evasive JKR here, so there might be some significance to phoenix feather, unicorn hair and whatever the third thing was), and it's also culturally bound - that is, wandmakers from other countries use indigenous plants, animals, etc., therefore, Fleur had veela's hair. How do you know when to stop editing? (sounds like an attempt to estimate her level of obsessiveness and get some idea about how soon we might see the last book) - She didn't really answer this question, so I don't remember what she said Something about the influence of internet - she stayed away from internet for a long time, then once, in a minute of boredom, she typed "Harry Potter" and was amazed, blah-blah-blah, shipping wars, Jane Austen did not have such pressure, etc. Something about whether she would've given up if the first book was not such a success and what would she be doing instead of writing - no, she would not have given up writing but if nothing got published in 16 years, she would've probably stopped sending it to publishers and would be teaching. Вроде, все. Kind of disappointing, as you can see... no new information to give rise to speculations... no hints... even "i can't answer this question" is usually significant... oh, well... still, it was a lot of fun :) Детали в стиле светской хроники: JKR такая рыжая-рыжая - тело все в веснушках. Одета была в маленькое черное платье. Туфлями своими хвасталась, их крупным планом показывали - какие-то понтастые :) Это у нее такая шутка была в порядке скромности и самоуничижения - что, типа, она после мэтров читает, зато у нее туфли самые лучшие. PS Тут некоторые не поняли - мне ОЧЕНЬ понравилось, под disappointing я имела в виду отсутствие интригующей информации, но это ни в коей мере не умаляет полученного удовольствия от мероприятия в целом Current Mood: sleepy (10 Comments |Comment on this)

11:16 pm	Увы и ах Меня тут некоторые ;) виртуально пихают локтем, что, мол я ничего не пишу... Как я отстала от ЖЖизни - что еще новенького они придумали??? О том, что мой юзернейм теперь пишется через дефис, к счастью, мне сообщила Н., а то пришла бы я как-нибудь ЖЖ почитать... Кстати, доблестные администраторы в госпитале умудрились прикрыть эту лавочку - а я раза 2-3 ненадолго зашла... К сожалению, хочу сообщить пускающим в ход локти гражданам и им сочувствующим, что писать мне совершенно не о чем. Т.е. то, о чем хочется написать - о работе - писать нельзя. А кроме работы и тихой семейной жизни, когда на нее остается время, ничего не происходит... Я и читать-то ЖЖ не успеваю - так, первые две страницы за завтраком. Такие дела (с). 10:55 pm	Roman Holiday - Farewell I miss New York :( I only regret that I didn't eat enough here ;) But how many times a day can one eat?! ;) Actually, I usually didn't have lunch (supposedly the bigger meal of the day for Italians) - I felt that I can't waste the time. Maybe if I ate lunch, I would've felt like I had enough food... ;) I gave pizza another shot - and it was very good. Take out pizza. And I tried only one and there were so many more varieties, all very appealing... I didn't get another chance to eat zemlyanika - no other place where I ate dinner had it for dessert :( I didn't try the local authentic tiramisu or zabaglione... I didn't eat enough pasta... Tonight I had heavenly ravioli (actuially, it wasn't called ravioli, it was some other word starting with L) with broccoli and almonds in truffle sauce - oh my god... That was something else... Definitely not enough pasta... didn't eat risotto once... didn't eat so many things... Yes, I could do with more italian food. But other than that - I'm tired of Rome and ready to go home. 11:11 pm	Roman Holiday Since I finally found the underscore key on this stupid European keyboard and was able to log in, I can as well write something ;) Roma is not my city. It's strange how these things go... K.U. didn't like Paris - it wasn't the city he read about in the books... I loved Paris. And Barcelona. Those two are definitely places where I could live (if I could speak the language). Rome is crazy even by NY standards. It takes some courage to cross a street with cars and scooters just going, and going, and going - and no street lights (well, very few, to say the least). And main shopping streets are packed with people - and cars and scooters trying to make their way through the people. Apparently, Italians love to shop :) I didn't notice any particularly beautiful Italian women in the streets. I also didn't notice any particular European-Italian-whatever sense of style. I think women are dressed pretty much like women in NY. Men, on the other hand, are more stylish. There are more stores with beautiful clothes for men than for women. Young men all look very metrosexual. Plus, apparently, it's culturally appropriate for two men to walk in the street arm to arm or semi-embraced, so I get startled all the time, trying to figure out whether they're gay or not. BTW, apparently there is a gay bar near my hotel, I just noticed it tonight: "Coming out" and then pictures of two men and two women. Ancient ruins are quite surreal, sprinkled out all over the city. Especially at night. Pantheon is really impressive. Colloseum is impressive too but I live close to it, so I pass it by several times every day and I'm used to it already. I'm getting a bit tired of all the churches and Christian stuff. And I haven't even been to Vatican yet ;) I saw the stairs from Pontius Pilate's palace (Scala Santa) which Jesus ascended after being beaten and scourged. People climb it on their knees. Fortunately ;), there're two stairs that one can use to get upstairs to Sancta Sanctorum (as a nun was telling some American tourists: "the holiest place") to see Acheropita - the icon which was supposedly painted by angels. The Synagogue (the only one in Rome)in the Ghetto is huge. I didn't go in, I don't even know if one can visit when it's not open for services. Coffee is good. BTW, Italians drink cappucino only for breakfast, it's a morning drink. Gelato is tasty. I didn't eat too much pizza. I ordered it once and it wasn't too good but I should try one of the small take out places. Pasta is very al dente. The portion is half the size of what we get served in NY - because it's one of three course before the dessert. I ate real zemlyanika (fragole)for dessert one of the first days. The weather was pretty bad, raining all the time, with only two sunny days. Maybe that's why I'm so...bitchy ;) Ot maybe because I'm alone. It's not too much fun to eat and drink alone (talking about drinking - house wine is very cheap, so for those who like cheap booze, Italy is definitely the place ;) A couple of times I had wine in wine bars, and there is definitely a huge difference in terms of the quality of wine). 2:16 am	На общем фоне неплохие (возможно) новости Калифорнийский сенат проголосовал за gay marriage. Тем самым Калифорния стала первым штатом, к-й пытается уравнять в правах гей браки без решения суда. Но на самом деле, не все так радужно (пардон за каламбур). Во-первых, для того, чтобы это стало законом, это постановление должно быть одобрено Калифорнийской Ассамблеей, к-я в прошлом году проголосовала против аналогичного билла. Во-вторых, если даже Ассамблея одобрит, то на закон может наложить вето губернатор-терминатор. В-третьих и в главных, в Калифорнии должны пойти на референдум две гражданские инициативы, к-е не только внесут поправку в конституцию штата, определяющую брак как союз мужчины и женщины, но и, судя по словам калифорнийцев , похерят все права, отвоеванные для domestic partnerships. Более того, по словам тех же калифорнийцев, если такой закон пройдет, и на него не будет наложено вето, это подвинет более ленивых "защитников традиционной семьи" бежать голосовать за эти самые инициативы (самые ярые и так, типа, проголосуют). 12:13 pm	Another victory - Spain legalizes gay marriage "Today, Spanish society is responding to a group of people who have been humiliated, whose rights have been ignored, their dignity offended, their identity denied and their freedom restricted," Prime Minister José Luis Rodíguez Zapatero told Parliament. Spain is the fourth country to legalize gay marriage, after Canada, Holland and Belgium. But only Canada's law, which was extended nationwide by Parliament this week, contains language as liberal as Spain's, according to gay marriage advocates. The Spanish measure simply adds one sentence to existing law: "Marriage will have the same requirements and results when the two people entering into the contract are of the same sex or of different sexes." Я охуеваю, дорогая редакция... UPDATE: drugoi убрал свой пост по просьбе автора репортажа, к-й сказал, что он "публиковал фотографии для узкого круга лиц и не давал разрешения помещать ссылки." При этом его пост по-прежнему в публичном режиме, но уже без фотографий. drugoi предположил, что автор испугался. Я сначала удивилась такой гипотезе,а потом вспомнила, сколько лет я уже там не живу... 2:24 am	NYC Gay Pride March 2005 - итоги Ну что ж, we did it again :) И на этот значительно масштабнее и представительно, чем в прошлом году. Перед нами шли Irish Queers, за нами - какая-то gay hip hop group. И там, и там было человек по пять. Нас же стартовало где-то человек 25, а под конец было человек 40. Порадовала "гражданская сознательность" представителей мужского пола :) - в этот раз их было человек 10, что не могло не радовать. Потом, по традиции тусуясь "у Бродского", мы познакомились еще с двумя очень приятными молодыми людьми, они нас видели во время Парада. В процессе к нам присоединился Дима, ветеран российско-американской гей общины, он участвовал в том самом Параде в 1996 (мы наконец-то узнали, когда это было), когда первый раз маршировала русская группа - с Машей Гессен и Трахтенбергом. Рассказывал про свою дружбы со всеми отцами/матерями русского ГЛБТ движения, чем меня несколько позабавил. Какая-то девочка, подруга Марьяны, с к-й мы встретились в прошлом году на Dyke March и к-я специально позвонила мне в этом году, чтобы помаршировать, снимала документальный фильм. Я была невменяемой еще до того, как мы стартовали (болталась там с 10.30, а вышли мы в 1.30), поэтому что я несла, не помню. Если вы меня потом вдруг увидите, и это будет очень неприлично - я не виновата ;) Были среди нас и наши straight allies and supporters: geish_a с мужем :) Участники стали строить грандиозные планы на следующий год: зарегистрировать машину или даже float. Float действительно прекрасная идея - я в этом году устала как собака :( Не знаю, что там будет в следующем году, думаю, что я for a change буду смотреть на Парад, а то я ни разу еще не видела его полностью. Хочу поблагодарить всех ЖЖстов, принявших участие (поименно не буду, а то обязательно кого-нибудь забуду) :) Особая благодарность - нашим прекрасным баннероносцам kpematop11 и pomer :) You were absolutely fabulous!!!
